Sandee is a relatively new elephant at Khao Lak Elephant Home. We rescued her just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit Thailand.

Previously she was working in the jungles of Phang Nga Province. Her previous owner had hired an inexperienced Mahout to take care of her. Sandee is a well behaved elephant and easy to get along with. Because of this, her previous owner presumed she would be okay to be left with a Mahout with little knowledge of elephant care. Sadly Sandee lost her left eye from a long term bacterial infection that could not be cured.

With economic hardship that accompanied the Covid-19 lock downs in Thailand, Sandee had no work and her owner had trouble finding the money for her food and living expenses. This is when we rescued her and brought her our Elephant Home. She has been a popular addition to our elephant sanctuary ever since and now receives the care and attention she deserves.
